What is Trimethylolpropane?
Trimethylolpropane (CAS 77-99-6), abbreviated as TMP, is a versatile trifunctional alcohol with the appearance of a white, low-dust crystalline solid, which can be used in alkyd resins, polyurethanes, UV coatings and synthetic lubricants.
Trimethylolpropane uses:
1.Glycerol substitutes and dry oil synthesis
Trimethylolpropane(CAS 77-99-6)provides better molecular stability as a glycerol substitute. In dry oil synthesis, it improves oil curing properties and service life.
2. Polyester and polyurethane foam production
TMP is used as a key intermediate in polyester and polyurethane foams, significantly improving the strength, hardness, and durability of the foams, as well as improving the water resistance and chemical stability of the polyurethane.
3. Alkyd coatings and synthetic lubricants
In the production of coatings and lubricants, trimethylolpropane enhances the robustness, weatherability and corrosion resistance of resins, strengthens sealing and durability, and improves resin hardness and colour tone.
4. Plasticisers and surfactants
TMP is used as raw material for plasticizers and surfactants to enhance the flexibility, ductility and thermal stability of plastics, rubber and other materials.
5. Explosives manufacturing
Trimethylolpropane is used in the explosives industry to make solid propellant coating and adiabatic layer, which improves the propellant performance by virtue of its stability and heat resistance, and is suitable for the synthesis of high-energy substances.
Storage conditions:
Store below +30°C.
Packing:
This product is packed in 25kg cardboard drums, and it can also be customized according to customers' requirements
FAQ:
Q: What is the difference between Trimethylolpropane and glycerol in polymer applications?
A:Although both are trifunctional alcohols, TMP has higher thermal stability and lower hygroscopicity, which is more conducive to improving the durability of the resin and extending the shelf life of the product.
Q: Can Trimethylolpropane be used in waterborne coatings?
A:Yes, when TMP is converted into water-soluble derivatives (such as TMP ethers or esters), it can improve the stability and hardness of waterborne resins.
Q: Will Trimethylolpropane affect the clarity of UV-curable coatings?
A:Not at all. On the contrary, TMP triacrylate is more suitable for clear coatings due to its extremely low yellowing and high refractive index compatibility.
